I found a little more info on the starting line picture. 12-08-84. It was a quad meet with UMass, So. Conn, and Bentley. We finished second with 64 points, Umass won with 67, S Conn had 37 and Bentley had 7 points. Bob Derrah and Bridan Moody qualified for the Easterns in the 2 mile running 9:12 and 9:19. I won the 5,000 in 14:20, Dennis Simoniatis took second in 14:22 and Tom Chamberas was thrid in 14:28. We qualfied for D2 Nationals with those times. No mention of Dave Quintal in the Lowell Sun article.

My training log says I had a sore throat and a bad cold and that we did 3 warm-up and 3 warm down. Splits were:

71/66/69/70/69/68/72/71/71/72/70/66/25 and 436/440/439

I remember that we were trying to qualify and took turns taking the lead as none of the other teams runners were fast enough. I also remember that Dennis didn't take the lead at all and Chambo was not happy about that.

The picture above is from the race, but it is hard to make out any of the action.

That's right. Dennis was not willing to take too many laps. I can assure you I took quite a few and that's where I left my race. You guys ran a superb race. I know I was under 14:40 but not under the standard.
The new picture shows me in 4th probably where I finished.

I was a couple months shy of 7 years old when that photo was taken... I remember it vividly...I was in 1st grade and I believe was learning addition and subtraction of 2 digit numbers...also, I believe that the Return of the Jedi action figures were the hot item to be seen with at recess.

I remember watching the Detroit Tigers win the World Series a few months earlier, I was six. no bullshit. I'd start running 25 years later.

Wait a minute JJ are you corrupting my little brother?
And Michael, it wasn't but a couple of months after that race at BU when I slam dunked your Dunk It smashing it to pieces before I headed off to FLA for spring break 1985!

I'm going to need a Quintal-to-English dictionary to decipher what you just wrote there Dave... ;)

You running the Claddagh this weekend? I feel like arse right now but as you know, sick or not, I'm addicted to these little ma and pa races... plus there's beer.

Its my wife's birthday so I don't think so...but one never knows. I would like to tour the fine streets of Lawrence and drink a couple of drafts afterwards.
Anyway ask Michael about the Dunk It episode.
Plus he is full of shite, he ran four years HS XC at NAHS.
One final addendum to the BU race, I think the NCAA standard was actually 14:32 and my time would of been in the 14:36 range. Not that anyone cares but I do!! I just realized that Lowell does not have an alltime list for INDOOR performances just outdoors. So I was guessing my time based on the top 10 performances of outdoors. Oops.

if you call that running. Ask Welchie if that was running dude. It was more like sleepwalking. Anyway, it's good to be in the game. People will know who am I am soon enough.

Its kind of weird blogging on Double D's blog while he sleeps in Bradford/Ward Hill.
Mike I'm proud of you. Keep up the good work.

Lays:
The UML website does have the indoor list you have to scroll past the outdoor list. Looks like you didn't make the list, but Chambo's 14:28 is still on it.
