Track work without a track

It has been nearly 2 months since my last workout.  With races and ankle issues I haven’t felt good enough to push it.  I decided that this week would be a good time to get back to it with the 5k championships (downhill!) looming large (May 18).

I headed out to the Methuen Rail Trail which is not a bad place to do workouts.  The quarter mile posts haven’t been replaced yet but you can see where they will go.  I did a 2 mile warm-up then 6x440 with 440 rest and 2.75 warm-down for a 7 mile day.  I had no goal time for the quarters but was hoping to be somewhere around 85 seconds which would be a 5k pace of about 17:45.

It was a bit breezy and I think one of the markers is off by a little bit otherwise it seemed like a pretty good workout.  If all goes well I’ll try it again next week and have something to compare it to.
