Looking back - February 1992

30 years ago (1992) – This was probably my best year of racing.  I raced four times in February and took two seconds and two firsts.  On the first of Feb. I battled Ed Sheehan at the Lynn Stew Chase and led over 400 runners to the finish with a 46:58. Ed was close behind (47:28) and we would have a bunch of back and forth races in ’92.  A week later I ran as easy as possible taking 2nd place (28:02) at a North Medford Club 5.3 mile race that was part of the Hockomock Swamp Rat Series.  Walt Murphy and I ran together, and he took the win in 28:01.  The next week I did a workout at the Fresh Pond 5 mile, using the race as a tempo run I ran 25:41 to take 2nd place.  The final week of the month I ran the DH Jones 10 mile which was the New England championships.  Ed Sheehan and I traded the lead until the final ½ mile when I went on to pull away by 4 seconds taking the win in 50:36.
