Earliest Sunrise

 Last week included a fun little “adventure” with Dave La and Petey.  We have done some sunrise runs on the summer solstice but I decided this time we’d try something on the day with the earliest sunrise.  Typically the earliest sunrise is a week before the solstice.  I met up with Dave at his house at 4:30 a.m. and we did a mile of running on the road before jumping on the Freeman Rail Trail.  Another mile on the rail trail got us to the start of the climb up High, Locust, and Summit streets.  That got us to the top of Robin Hill (350’) and the fire tower at 5 a.m. about 7 minutes before sunrise.  A little scramble, some crawling, and then up the 68’ tower.  We arrived with just enough time to catch the sunrise and some reflection off of the Prudential Tower in Boston 22 miles southeast.  We retraced our steps for a nice 6 mile run and I was at work right on time.
 
I have a fondness for fire towers, maybe because you get a great view?  I’ve been to a total of 206 different towers in 31 states including all standing towers in NH and Vermont (I still need 2 in Mass).
