30 years ago: June 1994, I got 388 miles this month despite a possible stress fracture of the sacrum and tendonitis of Ilio psoas. I started the month with a win at a small 5 mile in Manchester. I ran 24:19 to beat 100 runners the Executive Health Club race near Manchester airport. Big Mike Beeman put on the race where I gapped Art Sorrell in the early miles and ended up topping him by 1:08. A week later I found myself at the famed Dipsea 7.1 trail race in Mill Valley CA. I ran the fastest time of the day, passing all but 3 of the 750 people who started ahead of me (it is a handicapped race). A week later I was back at Mt Washington for one of the toughest days I can recall. It was hot as balls on this day and I noted “I think I can run 1:03 in these conditions but that could be anywhere from 1st to 10th place”. I took the lead just after 3 miles and was able to hold on for my third and final win at Mt Washington running 1:03:22. The next day I headed over to Bretton Woods and tried my hand at Summer biathlon. I came in 4th running 19:09 for the 3.7 mile course. My time was 2nd fastest, trailing only Keith Woodward but I lost time by not hitting as many targets (the winner ran 21:11 and got 3:15 subtracted for the targets he hit). Running and shooting, what a cool combination!
