I only raced three times ranging from the mile to the marathon. The Olympic Trials marathon had been my goal race and I put in a lot of hard training leading up to it. My hope was a PR but the day dawned sunny, windy, and warm (upper 70’s during the race). At the mile I knew that aiming for a PR might not be so smart so I found a pace I thought I could maintain and proceeded to move through the pack in the second half of the race. I was seeded 89th (of 110 qualifiers) and with 10k to go thought I had an outside shot at the top 20 and some $$$$. I ended up finishing 20th in 2:21:18 taking home $1,500 for the effort. After a 2 week break I hit the track for the Granite State Mile. Sean Livingston took the win in 38 degree temps and drizzle, running a 4:14.7. I crossed the line .4 later in 4:15.1 for second place. Splits: 64/2:08/3:13/4:15.1 The following day I sat in a pack of 6 runners at the James Joyce ramble and made my move in the last 200 meters to outkick John Clopeck for a two second win ($500) in 29:54.
