25 years ago today (May 5, 1991): USATFNE 10 mile
championships were held over the hilly Worcester (CMHC) course. I ran in the
pack from 2-4 miles before breaking out with Scott Bagley and Dennis
Simoniatis. Bagley gapped us on the big climb. Bagley ran out of steam after 9
miles. I remember Don Drewniak in the press truck yelling to Bagley “They’re
coming!” We caught him at 9.25. I continued a step behind Dennis and somehow
found a way around him with a couple of strides to go, taking the win in 49:36.
I picked up $500 for the win.
