Old Home day 08/17/91
I’m planning on racing in Londonderry this weekend, I
haven’t been to this race in a long time. I set the course record at the
Londonderry 5km Old Home Day race 27 years ago. I can’t believe it hasn’t
been broken. Nowadays it is rare indeed for anyone to crack 15 on a flat
5k course and this race is NOT
flat. I ran 14:44 on a muggy 80-degree day back in 1991 when I lived in
Londonderry and often raced in my “Mike Beeman’s Total Sports” singlet.
The course heads down the Millennium Mile hill then does a small loop before
heading back up the
hill. I was in pretty good shape when I set the CR. I ran 9:10 for
2 miles the week before and set the (still standing but the course has been
changed slightly) relay leg record at Lynn woods four days later. The
Londonderry race goes back to 1979, but online results are only available from
1996.
Here are the fastest times since 1997:
15:24 Jimmy Olsen 20M Londonderry NH 2001
15:25 John Mortimer 26M Goffstown NH
2002
15:30 Alan Bernier 24M Durham
NH 1998
15:30 Tim Wright 19M
Londonderry NH 1999
15:33 Craig Fram M43
Plaistow NH 2002
