Looking back - Feb 2018

 5 Years ago:  I only raced twice during this month, both a classic road race 😊.  I decided to give it a go at the Fudgcicle series 5k.  GLRR has been putting on these races since the 1980s.  It is a great winter series that is held no matter what the weather every weekend in January and February.  The suggested entry fee is $1 and you get a professionally timed race.  On this morning the roads were clear, temps were in the mid-20s, there was very little breeze, and a bright sun.  I was hoping to run right around 6:00s for the slightly long 5k course.  I was able to take 5th place in 5:56 pace.  No complaints!  Dave La had a nice run taking over a minute off his time from last week.  We finished the morning with a final lap around the course.

The following week I came back for the final Fudgcicle race of the year.  The weather was looking good so I was hoping to chip a few seconds off of my time from last week. The sun was out and temps were in the 40's and there was a little breeze but this looked like a good morning to race.  I caught up with an early leader at about 1/4 mile and moved into the lead just before we turned off the first road (less than 1/2 mile in).  I ended up taking first place in 18:16.  Dave and I teamed up to win the 50+ category in the Twosome and we also had the fastest time of the day by nearly 3 minutes.  Not bad for 2 guys with a combined age of nearly 108 years.
