35 years ago (June 1988): I only raced three times during this month, but it literally PAID OFF as I picked up three wins and $1,800. I started the month at the AHEPA 5 mile in Lowell MA on 06/04/88. I ran hard enough to pick up the win topping the field of 250 runners in 24:12. Two weeks later I ran in my first Mt Washington Road race. I knew it was going to be tough but kept expecting it to flatten out “around the next turn”. It never did. I managed to take the win in a new course record of 1:00:50. I got $1,100 in prize money for being first through half-way, the overall win, and the course record. I finished the month “feeling sluggish” but picking up a win at Cappy’s Kopper Kettle (a bar in Lowell). My 25:03 was fast enough to beat 500 finishers and got me $200.
