I purchased an
ElliptiGo and spent a good part of the month (with a Government shutdown)
heading around New England testing out the “Go” on every paved mountain I had
also run up. First up was Wachusett
Mountain, where I did the round-trip on the Go and then followed that with another
climb/descent on my mountain bike. Pack
Monadnock was next. The hardest part (besides the climb in Miller State park)
was the unpaved section of road that tested my ability to stay on the Go. As with Wachusett I hopped onto the mountain
bike after finishing and did it again. Next
was Kearsarge. I reached the top in 59:05 which was 1:35 faster than I'd done
on the bike. I zipped down to the gate (3.5 miles) in 8:52 which oddly was over
a minute faster than I'd biked it (not on the same day). Finally I headed out
to Mt Greylock for my first attempt at a state high point on the ElliptiGo. I
hit the top in 1:01:32 and spent the next 4:23 taking a couple of pictures
before heading back down. The descent
was a lot of fun. I threw in a bonus ride to the county high point on Holt Hill
to close out this day. My final “Go” of
the month was the Agamenticus fire tower. The hill has a great view as there
isn’t much along the seacoast of York that is anywhere near as high. I parked
at the Exit 7 Park and Ride because it was convenient to the highway and it was
exactly 7 miles away from the summit. I reached the summit parking lot 6
minutes before sunrise. I got a couple of shots of the full moon, the
fire tower, and the surrounding area while waiting for the sun.
