48 degrees in Hawaii

Can you believe it, it was only 48 degrees on Wednesday....of yeah that was at the summit of Mauna Kea (13,796 feet and State Highpoint). Spent the day looping the island including a trip to the Black Sand beach, the Rainbow Falls, and some caves. The high point of the day (pun intended) was the drive up to Mauna Kea. It was 87 degrees at sea level and 60 degrees when we got to the visitors center at 9,000'. Just before the 9,000' mark our bag of Doritos burst! It was pretty funny and loud, it was also a cool science experiment (we did it on purpose).

The summit was great! We got there before most of the tour vans and Rose and I did the 1/4 mile hike to the high point while Cath took pictures. Then we all gathered and took a bunch of sunset photos. Probably the most spectacular scenery we'd seen. I'll add a slideshow soon.

Ran 1:30 in the pool on Wednesday then 1:30 in the morn on Thursday before we headed for Kuaii.

I have been sticking to my "cooked food" diet (with your guidance, Jim). Had a great steak last night, but ruined it by adding ketchup which is technically a veggie.
