Snowshoe season recap

I've been meaning to post this for a while.  Congrats to my teammates Tim Van Orden and Jim Johnson for winning the WMAC and Granite State snowshoe series respectively.

Snowshoe season recap

With the nationals in the Vermont the fields were a bit larger at some races this year and the depth was also a step up.   There have only been 30 races in New England/New York that have attracted 100 or more finishers.  This year there were four races with over 100 finishers including the National championships which attracted a record 327 finishers.

Rookies:  This was definitely a great year for rookies, as some fast road runners put on the snowshoes and hit the trails.

Top New England Rookies:

Nacho Hernando – Raced 6 times in his first season on the snow, beating some of the best locals in the process.  He took 8^th place overall at Nationals and picked up two wins (and two second place finishes) in his four races in the Granite State Series.

Mike Galoob – Ran three snowshoe races making the most of it with a 1 second win at Prospect Mountain and an excellent 6^th place overall at Nationals.  He was the top New England finisher at Nationals scoring a spot on the U.S. team in only his second time on snowshoes.  He also ran TWO legs on the winning relay team at Nationals (which I guess means he really raced four times on snowshoes).

Todd Callaghan – Ran three snowshoe races taking second in the masters in two and first in the 45-49 at Nationals.  He started the season finishing 2^nd in the 40+ (and 6^th overall) at Sidehiller and took 2^nd in the 40+ and 3^rd overall at Prospect.  At nationals he finished in 30^th place overall and took home the Gold in the 45-49 age group.

Chad Carr – Started a year with a 7^th place finish at Horse Hill, where he started very slowly and passed quite a few people in the loaded field.  He followed that up with a fourth place finish at Exeter where he qualified for the Nationals.  At Nationals he took 5^th place in the 35-39 age group placing 22^nd overall.

Kenneth Tripp – Ran his first two snowshoe races this year.  He took 5^th in the 40+ at Sidehiller to qualify for Nationals and then finished 5^th in the 40-44 at Nationals (35^th place overall).

Eric Narcisi – Ran four of the Granite State Snowshoe series races and provided excellent coverage of the snowshoe racing season for Levlel Renner.

WMAC series

There were 356 unique finishers in the 6 race series.  The series was a best 3 of the 6 races.  Laurel Shortell was the only runner to complete all six races (she has a streak of over 100 straight finishes in WMAC snowshoe races).

Granite State series

There were 323 unique finishers in the seven races.  Five runners completed all seven, the scoring for the series was best four of the seven but you had to run at least 5 to be included in the results.
