I started capping my mileage at 80 per week back in June of 2015. Since that time I’ve only gone over 80 twice. Last week I miscounted while visiting a bunch of reservations and ended up with 81 miles for the week. The only other time I was over the cap was July of 2016 when I again miscalculated and hit 80 on the top of Kathadin. Running down was not in doubt and I ended up with 83 miles that week. There is no secret recipe that 80 miles will guarantee enough fitness and avoid injury but it has been a good stretch for nearly two years. I’ll have to work on my math skills, but I’d much rather come out 1 mile over than 1 mile under!
