Stu's 30k

Good luck to everyone running Stu’s this weekend!  Will Ruben Sanca take down the CR?
30 years ago I ran my first Stu’s (it was the New England 30km championships).  I managed to top the field of over 500 finishers for my first of five wins over the rugged loop around the reservoir.  My 1:39:09 time was well short of the course record.  However…
Twenty-one years ago (03-09-1997) I set the still standing course record for the Stu’s 30k.   My 1:39:15 has held up, but it has been helped by the race not being in the USATF NE grand prix since that year.  It is also helped by the course moving from Tahanto Regional school to Clinton High.  That removed a lot of fast history!  I’m not sure which course is tougher.  The current big hill at 9.5 was at 15 miles on the old course, which was tough but then you had a pretty fast mostly downhill finish to the school.  The tough two “little” hills coming out of Clinton were in the early part of the race back before 1996 but now they are in the final 2 miles making for a tough finish.  All things considered they are probably equally difficult.
