November 1998

20 Years ago = Nov. 1998 – I raced five times during this month including twice on the same day.  It was a pretty decent month of training as I was putting in miles aiming for the Rocket City marathon in December.  I started the month with a win over 300 runners in a Cross-Country race in Methuen.  I took home $100 for the victory covering the rolling hilly course in 15:22. The following weekend I got my ass kicked by Dave Beauley at the Weekend before hunting season 10 mile trail race.  He buried me on all of the downhills and eventually built up a lead I couldn’t overcome.  I took 2nd in 1:04:02.   The following weekend I attempted to double up at the Run Your Turkey Off (RYTO) in Tewksbury.  I ran the 5k alone and took the win ($150) in 15:11. Less than 15 minutes later I headed out for the 15k, started out slowly and found myself in fourth in the early going.  I caught Verrington at 4, then Chris Teague at 6, but couldn’t quite catch teammate Byrne Decker.  I ended up finishing in 2nd place in 48:14 four seconds behind Byrne.  The final race of the month was a 10k in Ashburn Virginia.  I was living in Washington DC for a month while working on the Y2K project (remember that?).  I took 3rd place in a pretty competitive 10k running 30:48.
