30 years ago (May 1990) – I only raced twice during this month with decent enough results. On 05-06-90 I took third place in the New England 10m championships in Worcester. The late Larry Olsen took the race out hard in 4:42. I hung on in back with a big pack (Jimmy Fallon, Jim Zimmerly, Chris Schille, and Ken Moloney). Schille and Moloney (NZL) broke away after five miles with Schille winning in 49:34. I was 20+ seconds back just sneaking under 50 in 49:58.
Two weeks later (05-19-90) on a very windy day, I picked up $300 (which is equal to over $600 today) taking second place at the Pepsi Police chase in Nashua NH. I ran in a pack of five for 5 miles then kicked like mad to run 30:06. Joe Rocha won in 29:53. Twenty-two runners broke 32 minutes despite less than ideal conditions.
Jim Zimmerly (52), Rod Ellsworth, Tom Anderson (598), me right behind Tom, Rick Doiron over my shoulder, Joe Rocha leading (797), Freddie Braz (796).
