Long run on two rail trails

Got in my longest run (13 miles) since March 25 when I did 13 in Z-hills (FL).  It was a beautiful morning for a run with temps in the upper 60’s and low 70’s by the time we finished.  I lucked out and did not have to go it alone as Joe Shairs and Greg Putnam both turned up.  We parked at Fawn Lake in Bedford, MA which has a pretty decent sized parking lot.  At 8am it already had a few cars since the day was looking fine.  I had picked out the route, an out & back on the Narrow Gauge and the Reformatory Branch trails.  http://www.bedforddepot.org/railtrails/RBRT_guide.pdf

Both are packed dirt trails which are typically in great shape.  There is only about a mile of pavement which includes a section of trail and less than a half-mile of road to connect the trails.   We had an enjoyable run catching up on what is going on and wondering about the future.  Thankfully the guys had run hard earlier in the week so this wasn’t super-fast.  I was prepared to run low 7’s (which is tempo run pace for me) but was glad to find we never strayed south of 7:30s.

I’m hoping to go back out there before the end of the month and make a loop that includes the Minuteman bike path (http://minutemanbikeway.org/), and the Battle road trail (https://www.nps.gov/mima/planyourvisit/maps.htm).
