Workout

I signed up for the Millennium mile and was feeling pretty good yesterday so I decided to do a workout.  Decided it was time to try a "quick" 2 mile.  The rail trail in Methuen is plowed and has every 1/4 mile marked so with the weather looking so nice I headed over there at lunch.

My plan was to do a 4 mile warm-up (32:00), 2 mile hard (11:40), 2 mile warm-down (15:00).  It went much better than expected with 4m (30:49), 2 mile (11:24), and 2m (14:51).  This was my fastest 2 mile since the Chelmsford 4th of July race in 2019.  I was hoping to hit 88 second quarters and at 86.3 I felt good then 87.0 which was my slowest 1/4 of the day, 85.2 and 85.8 got me to the mile in 5:44.3 and I was thinking "I might have a shot at breaking 11:30".  I was pretty steady for the last mile and even had a kick with splits of 85.6, 85.3, 85.8, and 83.0 for a second mile of 5:39.7.  I can't complain, my fastest mile this year is only 8 seconds faster.

I hope to do something during the middle of next week and then see what I can do at the downhill mile on the first.
