I decided to get one of the "nearby" tri-states that I'd not visited yet. Making the long haul down to Florida and planned out some interesting stops along the way. Departed at noon and arrived at 6:30pm (370 miles) at Clay Creek State park. The park was very nice, although I thought the $8 parking fee was a bit much, especially as I was only going to be there for about 45 minutes. My goal was to do the tri-state loop and also visit the arc monument. The arc monument marks the DE-PA state boundary line at the intersection of the east-west southern boundary of Pennsylvania (Mason and Dixon’s “West Line”) with the 12-mile Circle boundary line centered on Newcastle, DE. The trail to the tri-state boundary (PA/MD/DE) was a little less than 4 miles and would loop by the arc. I was happy to find the trail in great shape, smooth and with no roots or rocks. You could really just glide along. I was definitely feeling the long run from the morning in my legs, not to mention the driving. I got out on the trail and reached the tri-state just a bit before sunrise. Then a quick stop at the arc monument and back to the car for a 4m run with 254' of climb/descent (very gentle). After a quick change it was back to the car and onward toward Florida.
