Looking back - April 1993

30 years ago (April 1993): I raced six times during this month but four of those were over a 7 day period (and a couple were CMS series races that I did on my way to getting 26 of them for a sweatshirt).  I started the month at the Alamo Alumni race in Boston on 04/11.  Over 1700 runners took part in the 5 mile race.  Our U-Lowell squad finished in second place (2:06:53) to the Providence alumni (2:02:56).  I finished in third place losing the second spot to a kick by CMS teammate Eric Morse.  No complaints having run a 23:44.  Three days later it I ducked under 15 minutes (14:59) to win the CMS series 5k in Fitchburg.  Rich Marion took second place in 15:25, two of the fastest times ever run on the Fitchburg course.  A week later I ran at Fitchburg again running a 15:27 and nothing “out easy, ran the second half fast”.  Three days later I hit the track for the Granite State Mile.  I’d done this race a couple of times and really enjoyed the event.  I got my ass kicked finishing 3rd in 4:20.  Right after the race I was off to NY for the Leatherman’s loop trail 10k in Cross River NY.  We (Petey and I traveled together) were met with very rainy conditions.  The stream crossings would be waist deep.  I ended up taking the win over a field of nearly 400 in 36:51 about 2 minutes up on second place.  Petey took third in 39:26.  I closed out the month three days later with a jog-through at the Fitchburg 5k running 20:56 for 8th place in a field of 16.
