35
years ago: September 1988 – I only raced twice during this month
but picked up some cash and a PR. I started the month (09/04) racing in
Lowell at the Dubliner 5 mile (The Dubliner was a popular pub that closed in 2012 after 35 years in business) On a day perfect for racing (60’s and rainy) I topped a field of 1,000 with a
personal best of 23:27. I didn’t race again until the 25th
when I raced the NEAC 15km championships in Wilton NH. The notoriously hilly course
did a loop in town before climbing the first mile of the Pack Monadnock
course. The course rolled after that and had a fast downhill last
5k. I ran 5k splits of 16:06, 15:29, and 15:17 to take third place in
46:52. The third place got me $250.
