Verrington beats Dunham for the 100th time

I believe no one has raced me as many times as Dan Verrington. As of 09-20-09 we have raced 214 times. From 1985 to present. Three-quarters of the total are from the last 10 years. With his (head-to-head) victory at the Lone Gull race Dan now has beaten me 100 times. I still have the (slight) edge with 114 victories, but over the last five years I've only beaten Dan 7 times to his 74!

In the 214 races I won 33 times and finished second 33 times (I'm talking overall now, not just Dan versus Dave). Dan had 21 overall victories and 20 second place finishes. In a testament to the fact that many times we brought each other to the race where the other may have won had we not.....I won and Dan finished 2nd at 11 races and....Dan won and I finished second at 13 races.

Below I've shown the spreadsheet for the last 50 times we've raced each other....

I love all your data. I wish I kept better track because it is fun to look at.

We need to get Polar Beverages to start a commercial campaign featuring you two battling it out at some race just like Reebock did with the Dan/Dave ads prior to their '96 Olympic decathalon battle (which didn't pan out because O'Brien failed to score in the pole vault in the trials).

Wow Dave! With all the number crunching that you do I'm surprised you can find the time to run. :)

you need to widen your template and fix the tables so it's easier to read....but great stuff here. Let me know if you want me to help w/ that.

I noticed Dan has a long string of wins against you in 2006, who has the longer streak?

DQ is right, be very careful and listen to your body. You really won't get in better shape in the next couple of weeks, but you could really drag yourself down if you try to "push through".

JJ - I think DQ, Dan and I will be running together. Prediction for the three of us 2:59:58. Dan is running because we need a third master, DQ and I are coming off of injuries and are doing it strictly because it is a team race (well, I want that damn Iron-runner jacket.).

The fact that two people (any people) have raced each other 214 times is just amazing- and could be a record of some kind???

PS- this post should have included that photo of you and Dan running in your speed suits...
