Track

Track workouts

Another in the series of weekly track workouts last night.  Dan and I were joined by Craig Fram, it seems like we all have the same goal which is to get a little bit of speedwork done in anticipation of the shorter Grand Prix races.  The USATF New England road race series includes races from 5km to the marathon and three of the shorter races are in the next 8 weeks.  The James Joyce 10km (May 1) and the Nashua 6km (May 7) are followed by the Rhody 5km (June 5) then we won’t have another GP race until mid-July.  So the time is right to get some leg turn-over.

Last night was probably the windiest conditions so far this year, but we managed the fastest 6x400 of the season.  Each week we’ve improved a little over the prior workout.  Frankly I’m amazed that in four weeks I’ve been able to drop my 400 times by an average of over four seconds.

The key for me is consistency and I’ve never had trouble motivating myself…the trick has always been to stay healthy.  I’m hoping I’ve found a mix of doubles (two runs a day) and short workouts (1.5 miles of total speed) that will keep me healthy and keep me out there training and racing.  Time will tell…
