Mt Washington - Debuts

Pat Ard had asked me about people running there best time the first time they'd run Mt Washington.  I had done some calculations last year to figure out something along those lines.  I updated and expanded on the data which gave me the results below.  I limited the search to runners who broke 1:10, which is only a 2% sample of the total 28,000+ finishers.  This made working out the details a little easier, it also follows my assumption that in order to break 1:10 you are very much an elite runner and you are racing up the Mountain not necessarily "just" trying to finish.
 
208 people have ever broken 1:10, for a total of 469 times
125 people ran under 1:10 in there debut
81 of the sub-1:10 debut runners have not (yet) run the race again
 
Taking out the runners who ran the race only once leaves 126 people
35 people ran their fastest time in there debut
29 PR'd in their second race
20 PR'd in their third
18 in the fourth
8 in the fifth
6 in the sixth
4 in the seventh
2 in the ninth - Seven time winner Bob Hodge & Junior course record holder Tim Livingston
2 in the eleventh -me & Keith Woodward (Keith continues to tear it up, he set a new 60+ CR this year) 
2 in the sixteenth - Mike Casner & Francis Brudett (Francis is also the runner to set his PR at the oldest age..for runners who broke 1:10)  
 
So the average for a PR is the third race (3.18).  I'm not sure if this really answers Pat's question but it was fun tinkering with the numbers.  BTW: Pat's 1:09:58 is the 124th fastest debut.
