Looking back - March 1982 & 1987

30 Years ago (March 1982) – I took the opportunity to road race between my final indoor track season and my final outdoor track season at Billerica Memorial High School.  I took it out hard at the Hynes Tavern (Irish Feet are running) 5 mile in Lowell, MA.  I ended up taking 4^th place overall with a 24:51 with splits of 4:48, 4:54, 5:10, 5:06, and 4:53.  I have no idea who beat me or by how much…

25 years ago (March 1987) – The only race I did during this month was my final indoor track race at the University of Lowell.  John Cotter, Rick Dawe and I ran in the D2 National championships in Fargo ND.  I finished 4^th in 14:32.7.  Not my greatest but it earned me All-American status.  Splits: 4:32/4:48/4:45.  John took 6th place to earn All-American status.  Jason Cakouras just missed qualifying for the finals in the 1,500 and Gus Silva set a school record in the long jump with a 23' 9.5" jump which was good enough for 7th place.
