Got back on track
yesterday (literally) as Dan and I headed to Phillips Andover for a "mini"
workout. I've been a bit tentative since having a minor calf spasm during the
5k Beach race on December 1st. I'm hoping to go to the Mini meet at B.U. and
really needed to test out the calf before doing that. Last week I did a few
up-tempo runs at lunch with no problems so on to the track. The goal for the
workout was to run 4x800 at 80 second 400 pace. We did a short 2m warm-up to
the track and then switched into flats and did another mile with strides. We
alternated leading the 800's with Dan taking the first one. Wow! It felt way
faster than it should have. Maybe it was the wind (20mph) or just lack of
enthusiasm but it was not easy. I guess the first workout after a long break is
always the toughest...at least that's what I'll keep telling
myself.
