Masters of Gilmanton

Gilmanton top masters

I took a look back at the top times at the Gilmanton 5k to see how my time would rank historically.  The race has been around since 1999 and typically gets just under 300 finishers per year.  I used 18:00 as the cutoff and came up with 25 times that a 40+ runner has dipped under 18 minutes.  The race is put on by my CMS teammate Scott Clark so it is no surprise that of the 25 sub-18 times 22 of them are by CMS runners.  Eric Morse has five of those times including the four fastest (he also owns the open course record).  Scott Clark not only directs the race but owns four of the top 25 masters times.  Dan Verrington, Rod Viens, and Ernie Brake each have three of the top 25 times.  Ernie also owns the 50+ course record with his 17:55 from 2012.  All of these times are pretty impressive, even more so when you factor in that Gilmanton run 30 to 60 seconds SLOWER than a flat course.

I was pleased to see that my time was third fastest in the 45+ trailing only Dan V and David Quintal, two very fast “old” runners J  I’m hoping that I can return next year and take a shot at Ernie’s record.  If all goes well Gilmanton will be my first race as a 50-year-old.
