35 years ago today (02-04-80) – Arch rival Chelmsford took on
the Billerica squad in a dual meet at the Andover (Phillips) indoor track.
Points towards a varsity letter were earned by finishing in the top 5 in your
event and in this meet the points would be doubled. That is how bitter the
rivalry was! I ran the mile which turned into a tactical race for me. My
teammate John Dangora and Chelmsford’s Tom Chamberas (who would be my teammate
in College) had a great battle with John beating Tom while both were timed at
4:48. I snuck under 5 minutes (4:59) for third place and some all-important
points towards my letter.
