02/23/92: Ed Sheehan (BAA) and I had a great battle over 10 miles at the DH Jones race in Amherst, MA. The day was pretty good for winter racing with temps in the upper 40’s and low 50’s but that also meant that the dirt road was muddy and slick. Ed and I had a lot of close races over the years and a few very close ones in 1992. I didn’t pull clear until the final downhill into the school with less than ½ mile to go. Then I kicked like mad for the line not realizing that I still needed to loop around the parking lot! I regrouped and held on for a 4 second victory in 50:36 over a field of 476 finishers.
