35 years ago: June 1984, I ran 261 miles
during this month due to a very sore arch (missed 2 days). I only raced twice.
On June 17th I ran the Kappys Kopper Kettle race in Lowell. There was always a
fair amount of cash at this race so usually there was some good competition. I
ended up placing second to Fernando Braz (24:35) in a field of 850 runner
(which wasn’t a particularly big field back then). I ran 24:50 with splits of
4:59/9:50/15:02/20:04. Two weeks later I ran the Blessing of the Fleet race in
Gloucester MA. The field was pretty good, with Guy Stearns taking the win in
23:45, he was closely followed by Pete Pfitzinger. I took fourth place six
seconds behind Fernando Braz (24:11 to 24:17).
