Ankle was really bothering me this week, go figure.  Could be the last 10 weeks of mileage.  Time to ease back a bit.  Hated the hot, humid, and high pollen for most of this week.

Weekend Ride on the Groveland, Georgetown and Boxford rail trail

Had fun getting in a long ride on the Groveland, Georgetown and Boxford rail trail this weekend.  Perfect weather and probably the most scenic rail trail near here.  I hadn't been in a LONG time, I think Dan and I did it as a long run a bunch of years ago.  Mostly in great shape but a little rough for biking.  I may be a bit spoiled with smooth surfaces!

Wachusett mountain - 25 years ago today

I ran my first Wachusett Mountain race 25 years ago today (05-27-95).  Along with the win I set a new course record of 24:37 topping Sean Livingston’s 25:04 from 1994. Bob Hodge and I ran together through the tough opening mile (6:02) before I pulled away for the win.  Since 1995 I’ve only missed the race twice (injured in 1997 & 2011).  With 23 finishes I’m tied for third most.  Hoping there will be a race up Wachusett later this year!

From the CMS Newsletter

05/27/1995 – Dave Dunham (CMS) lowers the course record to 24:37.  Sue LaChance (CSU) tops the women’s field in 30:19 (CR). 163 finishers – near perfect weather conditions – clear; low humidity; mid-60’s; minimal wind.  After Bob Hodge (Clinton) winner of the 1993 Wachusett Mountain race, pushed the pace for the first mile, up aptly named mile hill road, Dave Dunham (Londonderry, NH) pulled away en-route to a course record 24:37.  For Dave, the 1994 Mt Washington Road Race winner, it was a first time effort at Wachusett Mountain.  Peter Blomquist (Worcester) topped two non-CMs runners – Brad Hurst of the BAA and Peter Dane of CSU in winning the men’s masters’ competition.  Over one third of the field – 57 runners in all – were in the men’s masters’ division.  Peter Orni (Fitchburg) was second to Jonathan Stableford of the Merrimack Valley Striders in the seniors’ division.  Eric Wysk (Oakham) was the second junior.  Harriott Meyer (Sterling) and 1993 winner Margo Webber (Boxborough) placed 2-3 behind Sue Lachance of CSU in the women’s division.  Lachance broke Margo’s 1993 CR of 30:20 by one second.  Laura Beckwith (Holden) was the first female senior and second overall among age 40+ women.  MariLou Crohan (Leominster) was the first and only femail veteran to make the 1095’ climb from the bottom of Mile Hill Road in Westminster to the summit of Wachusett Mountain. – CMS newsletter

Weekend Group run

Ran with Jim P, Doug D, and D-la at Bradley Palmer State park.  Great day and great fun getting 10m done in the woods.

Week Ending 05/24/20

Sick all week with prostate issues (?).  Tried to not let it get in my way but thought it best to not do a workout this week, mostly due to a lack of sleep.

Three long runs

Last week I got in three long runs.  Running longer than 5 or 6 miles is a rarity for me even with 80+ mile weeks.  Last week I got in 95 miles and had long runs of 10, 12, and 13.  Pretty happy to be able to get our there.

On Thursday I did 12 miles in Amesbury, Salisbury, and Newburyport

On Saturday Jim Pawlicki joined me for a run in Bradley Palmer State forest
I closed out the week with 13 miles on the Bay Circuit Trail in the Hockomock Swamp
