Looking back - 35 years ago (June 1985)

35 Years ago (June 1985): I had a fairly busy June back in 1985, I had just come off my Junior year at U-Lowell and was hoping for a good summer to get me ready for my final XC season. I ran 378 miles this June and raced five times, but three of those races were on the same day. I started the month off by participating in my one and only Bay State Games. In order I did the 5,000, 2-mile, and mile. For the 5,000 I noted “ran easy to win” in 15:03. Next up was a 9:33 2m for the win and closed out the day with a 4:24 mile for my third win. Ten days later I hit the Cawley stadium track for the very popular GLRR 2 mile series. I took first on that night running a negative split 4:34/4:30 – 9:04. I’d have to run a LOT faster to get the series record (Bob Hodge 8:52)! Three days later I took on 250 others at the Swampscott Dory Run (which is still held but is now a 5k race). I got by Ed Sheehan and Paul Gompers in the final 400 meters to take the win in a Course Record 23:41.
